WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals opens MAC play with loss

Ball State starts conference play with loss to Toledo

Ball State opened Mid-American Conference play on the road against Toledo Wednesday evening with a 63-46 loss.

Last year, the Rockets ended the Cardinals season in the second round of the MAC Tournament with a 67-56 loss.

The Cardinals fell behind 14-3 early in the game, but used a 9-0 run to come with a basket of the Rockets.

Two points was the closest Ball State would get the rest of the game, heading into halftime down 26-16.

In the second half, Toledo extended the lead to as many as 25 points behind 14 points each by senior Melissa Goodall and junior Naama Shafir.

Seniors Emily Maggert and Ty'ronda Benning had 18 and eight points, respectively. Freshman Brandy Woody scored six points

Ball State shot 31 percent for the game with 27 turnovers. Toldeo shot 44 percent for the game while committing 19 turnovers.
