MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State starts MAC play with win

Cardinals win on road at Northern Illinois

Ball State began MAC play Saturday afternoon defeating Northern Illinois 75-70 at the Convocation Center.

Leading Ball State (9-4, 1-0 MAC) in scoring was junior Jarrod Jones. Jones posted his seventh double-double on the season, scoring a career-high 25 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Two other Cardinals scored double digits. Sophomore Jauwan Scaife had 17 points off the bench, and freshman Chris Bond posted 10.

Despite several comeback attempts by the Huskies, the Cardinals were able to subdue each scoring stretch by Northern Illinois (4-9, 0-1 MAC).

Leading the Huskies in scoring was Tim Toler with 22 points.

Northern Illinois' Xavier Silas was held to 15 points. Silas was the fourth-leading scorer in the country coming into the matchup, averaging 24 points per game.

Ball State's bench players outscored Northern Illinois' 29 to 8 in the victory.
