WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals drop first game in Mexico

Ball State suffers defeat to UAB

In its first game in the Triple Crown Sports Caribbean Classic, the Ball State women's basketball team dropped its game against the University of Alabama at Birmingham 61-56.

The Blazers led by as many as 11 points in the first half before the Cardinals cut the lead down to 27-23 at halftime.

In the second half UAB pulled out to another 11 point lead, but again Ball State could not get any closer than four points.

Senior forward Emily Maggert scored 18 points and 13 rebounds, her 27th career double-double.

Freshman forward Jazmin Hitchens scored nine points and senior guard Ty'ronda Benning and junior guard Megan Craft both scored eight points for the Cardinals.

Ball State shot 36 percent from the field for the game. UAB shot 37 percent from the field.
