WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State ready for Cardinal Classic

Senior has big goals for final home tournament

Monday kicks off the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State. The 15-team tournament will be played on Monday and Tuesday at The Players Club.

The Classic will consist of 18 holes each day and will begin with a 9 a.m. start.

Among the 15 teams will be four other Mid-American Conference schools, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Western Michigan.

With knowledge of the course, the Cardinals see no challenges ahead for the next two days.

"We know the course very well," senior Brittany Kelly said. "The conditions will be the same as our last two tournaments, cold and rainy, so we will be mentally prepared to play as well."

Eastern Michigan won last year's event, while Ball State was seven strokes behind in second. Kelly and her teammate Katie Windlan tied for 14th a year ago, while Rachael Pruett managed to tie for 19th.

Ball State will be paired with Northern Illinois and Western Michigan for Monday's first round.

For Kelly, one of the Cardinals' two seniors, the Cardinal Classic has extra meaning.

"It's hard to believe this is the last time I will be competing at our home event," Kelly said. "I want to finish strong and get a win for the team and individually."
