Fans waiting to get the opportunity to see the 2010 Ball State women's volleyball team in action will have to wait a little longer.

Wednesday afternoon the athletic department announced the traditional alumni match, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been canceled.

"We were really looking forward to playing the match and it being a great experience to get out onto the floor," coach Steve Shondell said. "There were a lot of conflicts with our alumni being high school coaches and there being high school tournaments this weekend."

Shondell plans to have the alumni match in the future and to plan the event better by being open to having the match on a Sunday.

With a week before the first match of the season, Ball State will continue to prepare for the Citadel on Aug. 27 on the road in the SIUE Volleyball Classic.

"We're going to have a little dress rehearsal Saturday morning instead," Shondell said. "We will just hold a scrimmage and make it as close to game conditions as possible."

Ball State's home opener is Sept. 3 against Tennessee State at 7:30 p.m.
