BASEBALL: Rain suspends game at Western Michigan

Due to heavy rain in Kalamazoo, Mich., the opening game of Ball State University's series at Western Michigan University was suspended in the fourth inning Friday.

The Cardinals were trailing the Broncos 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. First baseman Chris Lewis hit a solo home run in the third inning off reliever Brad Piatt for the only run of the game. Perci Garner started the game for Ball State, but pitched just one inning.

Catcher Zach Dygert was the only Cardinal to reach base in the first three innings, drawing a walk in the second off Casey Webber.

The game will be resumed Saturday at 12 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
