WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State finishes program-best second place in MAC Championships

Brittany KellyGÇÖs final-round 71 pushes her into second place

The Ball State University women's golf team this weekend had its best-ever performance at the Mid-American Conference Championships, finishing in second place.

The Cardinals only trailed No. 33 Kent State University, which went on to win its 12th straight MAC title. Kent State is still the only program to have won a MAC Championship in women's golf.

Ball State's 911 in the three-day event was one stroke better than third-place University of Toledo, while Eastern Michigan University finished in fourth with a 926.

Pacing the Cardinals was Brittany Kelly. Kelly's final-round 71 catapulted her into second place individually, and her score of 221 was just three strokes behind medalist Martina Gavier from Kent State. Kelly's second-place showing is the best by a Ball State golfer in the MAC Championships since Katie Sundberg claimed medalist honors in 2005.

Rachael Pruett, who was tied for second place after the first two rounds of the tournament, finished fifth for the Cardinals with a 224, while Kristtini Cain rounded out the Ball State contingent in the top-20 tied for 15th with a 230.
