GYMNASTICS: Senior named Academic All-MAC

Honor is ninth straight year BSU gymnast received conference academic accolades

The Mid-American Conference announced its academic all-conference gymnastics team Wednesday, and one Ball State University gymnast made the cut.

Senior Ashley Jacob was named to the Academic All-MAC Team as the Cardinals' sole representative.

Jacob led Ball State with a 9.725 on the uneven bars against Central Michigan University on March 13. She had a 9.6 (23rd place) at the MAC Championships, her final meet as a college gymnast.

An elementary education major, Jacob has a cumulative 3.679 GPA, including a 3.93 GPA in the 2009 Spring Semester.

It is the ninth-straight year for a Ball State gymnast to earn this honor. This includes Brittney Bauer representing Ball State in 2009, Erica Gilkerson in 2008 and Kelly Watson in 2006 and 2007.

To be nominated, a gymnast needed to have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the meets that season.

Central Michigan led the conference with three gymnasts, and Kent State University was the only other school with more than one member on the team.

All seven MAC schools with gymnastics programs had a representative named to the team.
