WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Boos hired as Florida assistant

Former Ball State coach resigned two weeks ago

Former Ball State University women's volleyball coach Dave Boos was announced as an assistant coach for the University of Florida on Monday, almost two weeks after resigning at Ball State.

Boos joins the Gators who made it to the Sweet 16 of the 2009 NCAA Tournament before having their season ended at the hands of top seeded, undefeated and eventual national champion Penn State University.

Boos resigned as head coach of Ball State's program March 3 and The Ball State Daily News reported he would join the Florida staff. He and Gators coach Mary Wise have worked together in the past. In 2006 Boos served as the defensive coordinator of the USA A-2 Women's National Team.

Boos will be involved in every facet of Florida's program, according to the athletic department's press release.

Best known for his recruiting prowess, Boos had received signed letters of intent from four PrepVolleyball.com 2010 Senior Aces list which ranks them among the top 250 recruits in the nation before leaving Ball State. The fifth recruit who signed just missed the list and was in the honorable mention.

Boos, who finished his three-year tenure with the Cardinals with a 32-62 record, was unavailable to comment Monday afternoon due to his coaching responsibilities with the Gators.

"I am very excited to join the Gator Volleyball family," Boos said in the Florida press release. "I've had the opportunity to coach with and against Coach Wise during my career and have the utmost respect for her and how she has built Florida Volleyball. I am looking forward to working with one of the top coaching staffs in the country and assisting in the guidance of a tremendous group of student-athletes."
